Making music at The Nest

Brianna Tarbert, Senior
Aspirations: Music therapist
Inspirations: “People like P!NK and Adam Lambert, because they can stand and keep going though people will try to push them down.”
What lead you to music? “Curiosity more than anything. In elementary school I started with chorus and stuck with it ever since because it’s just so much fun.”
Style/Genre: “I try not to keep myself to any specific genre, and I’m still developing my singing style within each genre.”
If you could revolutionize music as we know it, how? “I would hope to create something, even if it’s just one song, that touches people’s hearts in a way that hasn’t been done before, something that brings people together and sheds differences while still maintaining uniqueness.”
What have you been doing to get your name on the map? “I’ve been working on making and posting videos that display my talents on social media like keek and I’m hoping to get some YouTube videos up soon.”
Why is music so special to you?: “Music is something that crosses language barriers, and it’s a fun way to express my emotions and thoughts.”

Jenn Harvey, Senior
Aspirations: High school choral teacher
Inspirations: Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra
Style/genre: “I love every genre but my favorite is definitely Jazz. Since I spent so much time at my grandparents growing up, I guess I just fell in love with the type of music they listened to.”
What lead you to music? “My family is very musical but my grandparents are definitely the reason that I got involved with music. My grandmother would play the piano for me when I was little, and when I turned 10 she started teaching me. My grandfather had been in music his whole life and introduced me to singing.”
What have you been doing to get your name on the map? “I’ve tried being in as many plays and choral groups in and out of school, and I just started uploading videos to YouTube.”
Why is music so special to you? “Music has been a big part of my life for many years, and I honestly can’t myself doing anything else.”

Molly West, Senior
Aspirations:
Inspirations: “Austin Carlile because he has overcome so much and he saves lives. He turns negativity and bullying into a chance to grow.”
Style/Genre: “I like pop punk but my personal genre is acoustic.”
What lead you to music? “I taught myself piano and guitar because I loved the beautiful sounds. It soothed my mind.”
What have you been doing to get your name on the map? “I haven’t really been doing anything to get my name on the map, honestly. I don’t want to put myself out there so much.”
