After having taught roughly 7,740 students, North Harford is saying adios to one of its own at the end of the 2013 school year.

Mrs. Winnie Lange has taught Spanish for 43 years.  Though she is very excited for her retirement, Lange is not finished inspiring her students just yet.  She will join her colleagues and group of students for a trip to Spain this summer.

“You’ve [Lange] always been so patient with us, so happy to help us whenever we need it…You’ve always treated me so well. I wish you the best of luck,” said senior Lauren Savard.

When asked why exactly she was retiring, Lange said, “I have been here all my life.”

Of all her memories at NH, Lange said her favorite memories are the great people she has met, and the great friends she has made.

“Probably one of my fondest memories is when we went to Croatia together. That was so much fun,” said French teacher Larissa Arist.

One of her friends is Miss Enetaurigh, an old in-school supervisor, made a long lasting memory on Lange’s life in the way she teaches. Enetaurigh trained Lange and several other teachers.

Even colleagues outside the foreign language department are sad about Lange’s retirement.

“Nobody has a better friend, and no student has a better teacher than Winnie Lange,” said English teacher Linda Duncan.

As for new teachers entering the profession, Lange has some words of advice.

“This job can be very rewarding, watching your students walk in on the first day of school and seeing how much they have progressed towards the end of the year,” said Lange.
