First seen as a long term substitute for Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, and now seen as the newest addition to the North Harford science department.

Though she is not unfamiliar to the students and staff at NH this year,  Mrs. Christine Jestel has returned as a full time teacher.

About her return, the science teacher comments,   “It’s been interesting. I’ve had to change things up with different classes, different levels. But overall, there’ve great students.”

One of the reasons Jestel wanted to come back to North Harford after her long-term sub position was because she loves being here. She considers NH “probably the best school I’ve worked in.”

“I loved high school. I loved everything about it. From the classes to the clubs to just being able to do anything you want to do. And I wanted to give that back to students,” said the returning teacher.

Before coming to the Hawk’s Nest, Jestel worked at various high schools in and out of state. “I taught for seven years before coming here. But, I stayed home for eleven years with my children.”

“I taught at Aberdeen High School. I taught at Denbigh High School in Newport News, Virginia, and I taught at West Potomac High School in Alexandria, Virginia.”

Jestel also gained experience other ways. “I was a home and hospital teacher for a while so I got to teach every subject for whatever students needed.”

Although Jestel is generally teaches chemistry, she said can teach other science classes as well. “Now I’m certified to teach physics and I’ve taught biology and environmental science before. And I’ve tutored math in every capacity.”

When she’s not in the chemistry labs, she can also be found with drama teacher Nancy Green preparing for the upcoming musical Bye Bye Birdie.
