Junior Alexis Bilsky creates her own candles, not only for a school project, but also as a business. She began this business for her SAE, which according to the student is a four-year project for the magnet program. “You don’t have to do the same thing every year, but if you do, it’s easier for your final project which is your capstone,” Bilsky comments.

She got the idea from looking up on the internet how to make money, and the idea of candle-making sounded fun and relatively easy. Plus, it could double as a source of some income and her mandatory school project. Although, before she can sell the candles, she has to make them first. “Well, you order all the supplies, which is really expensive, and then you measure the wax, and you melt it, and then you put this fragrance oil in, and they set. Then you sell them,” Bilsky explains.

With the cold winter coming up, she also has seasonal and holiday scents. Her most popular ones this past Christmas season were Christmas tree, black raspberry vanilla, and autumn wreath. Although, Bilsky recommends sugar cookie and vanilla cookie. “I sell eight ounce and twelve ounce candles… Eight ounce is six dollars, soon they’re going to go up to seven…. And then twelve ounce are eight dollars,” Bilsky reports on her candles.

Last year, Bilsky made almost two-thousand dollars in profit from her candle business. She also uses her own candles along with selling them. “I do have an email, [email protected], and I am making a website currently.” She said, in case anyone is interested in purchasing her products.

“I would highly recommend her candles, primarily because they are for a good cause, because she’s doing her SAE project and they’re agriculturally based, so they’re really good candles.” Junior Olivia Sheldon, a customer of Bilsky’s candles, commented on her products. Sheldon also recommended the vanilla scent, “that smells pretty natural.” Sheldon suggested them as an excellent present as well, “Hundred percent, great gift. They’re pretty big too.”
