At the onset of the new year planning and preparation for concerts, plays, sports, and more begins.

Though every music host concerts two major concerts each year, chorus is the only musical area that holds four.

The first singing event of the year will feature Disney music, in preparation for the chorus who will be making a trip to Florida in January 7, 2016.

Singers have been paired with others who have the same tone of voice that they have, which is followed by singing with the whole choir to make sure that the sound is spread evenly.

“It’s different each year and new people have to be integrated into the process and it can take a while as well because some people sound the same so they have to be moved around to make the sound even. We sound great though!” said senior Brianna Colling.

Choral students are expected to read and solfege the music, take a singing test, and memorize the music. “Solfege helps us to understand and learn certain skips up and down in pitch. This is important so that we know how to read music correctly,” said junior Maddie Roloff.

After the classes have learned all of the songs, they start to polish which means working on diction, crescendos, decrescendos, and more. “Once you get to the step of polishing, the song becomes fun to sing. Polishing is what makes the song fun. Once you have it memorized, you start to add dynamic contrast. The swells make the song beautiful!” said Senior Erin Cullum.

The choirs will feature songs from Frozen and the song “We’re All in This Together” from the film High School Musical.

According to Junior Maddie Roloff, the song from Frozen will be performed in a different languages.

“The frozen song we are singing is in an Icelandic language. When we sing this song, it sounds great, but still requires lots of practice,” said Roloff.

In January, the choir will be traveling to Disney World to participate in workshops and to perform at Walt Disney World with the real location yet to be determined. The group will be at Disney for two days and then head to Universal Studios for the last day for some fun as well as experience the musical aspect that both places have to offer.
