Advancing into fencing with harvey

Fencing is a sport featured in the Olympics, on ESPN, bur rarely if ever is it a sport students at NH know much about.  There is one exception.

Junior Grant Harvey.

Harvey has been fencing for 5-6 years and really enjoys the sport. He got into fencing by liking to fight with something similar to a sword and he liked how it is different not like every other sport. “It keeps me in good shape because it is actually really tiring and hard,” said Harvey. “i love to fence mostly because it’s fun and I hope to become really good one day”

“My biggest accomplishment is when I fenced an Olympic fencer and I got points on her,” Harvey said. His success made him very happy and encouraged him to want to try even harder at his sport. Scoring points on an Olympic fencer is like scoring a basket in basketball against a NBA player, according to Harvey.

Harvey’s biggest goal is to become very good at fencing and to get into bigger competitions as his career goes on. His experience with the Olympic fencer left a lasting impression. “I would love to go to the Olympics to watch her fence; it is pretty much a dream of mine.”

“My biggest fear while fencing is to lose so badly that it is embarrassing,” said Harvey, who said losing would makes him look like he’s a very bad fencer and that he doesn’t know what he’s doing. “ Having a great day of fencing is the best day ever,” said Harvey.

Fencing also involves a good bit of money. “I payed over 200 for my epee (the tool that is used like a sword). There are many different price ranges for fencing equipment, and there is a significant of amount of equipment required to fence.
