New Seasons and new coaches

North Harford welcomes new sports coaches

As the fall sport seasons begin new coaches are becoming part of the team and bonding with the players. Amateur JV soccer coach Ms. Fiorentino states “I love getting to know the students outside of the classroom, playing a sport we all love. It has been an absolute blast so far and I can’t wait to keep getting to know the girls!”

Similar answer was given by new cheerleading coach Ms. Crawford-Smick stating, “there is a different relationship between a coach and a player, rather than a teacher and a student and it really is nice to see that side of my students or former students.”

Although the coaches seem to be enjoying their new roles at North Harford they have had to overcome some challenges. Fiorentino claims that the most puzzling part for her so far “is the fact that I’m still a new coach – it has been difficult learning the ropes, but I’m thankful to have the Veteran Coach Berg by my side!”

New Varsity girls Soccer coach Ms.VanDorick states that the most frustrating  part of coaching “is being a coach on the sidelines and not being able to play yourself.” This frustration was also shared by other new coaches due to their background in their sport.

Both new soccer coaches have experience in their sport. Fiorentino states “I have played soccer since I was four years old and I am still playing today (in the old people league J). Even though a lot of injuries have gotten in my way and prevented me from playing soccer like I’ve wanted to, I could never stop playing – I love this sport more than I could possibly explain.” VanDorick states “I played soccer through college.  In high school, I feel that this experience is very similar, especially since I went to NHHS.”

The coaches also have similar goals for the season.  Crawford-Smick vows that her team goal is “for them to work together and form a relationship almost like a family and to be successful and be confident in their ability as a cheerleader and they worry about what others will think and I don’t what that to get in their way.”

“My goal for the team this year is for the girls to be able to maintain possession the best as possible during games.  When our team connects multiple passes in a row, that’s when I get excited.  Also, it would be fantastic to win at least one game in the playoffs” states VanDorick.

VanDorick also states that she wants the soccer season to pleasant and enjoyable to the girls. “I want the girls to look back at the soccer seasons and think about how much fun they had.  I want to have a positive impact on the how they think of soccer.  You don’t always remember what people say, but you remember how they make you feel.”
