North Harford alumni continues to impress, Former Hawk leaves lasting legacy

From North Harford, to University of Maryland, to the Washington Nationals, Kevin Mooney has left his mark. Mooney graduated from North Harford in 2012 and has spent his time since then living and breathing baseball.

Although he is currently a Washington National, his baseball career began at the Nest. The four year baseball letterman played under Coach Tim Larrimore.  Mooney said he “committed to go to Maryland in his junior year…, I officially signed my national letter of intent to go to Maryland in fall of 2011, the fall of my senior year.”

Mooney ended his high school career at North Harford with a 24-8 record with a 1.35 ERA (earned runs on average) and 301 strikeouts, hit .349 with 19 doubles, nine home runs and 77 RBI (runs batted in) according to umterps.com

During his senior year, Mooney lead the Hawks the Maryland 3A title game. Although the team did not come out on top, it was a season for the books, especially for Mooney who pitched a perfect game in the semi finals.

But his success did not end in high school.  Mooney say he played “for Maryland for three years and was drafted in June of my junior year, 2015.”  The athlete pitched for the Nationals in the summer of 2015 and then went to spring training in March of 2016, last year.   He added that he “played all this past summer, and now I’m getting ready to go back down to spring training.”

In his off season this year, Mooney returned to NHHS as a substitute teacher.  The former Hawk said his favorite memory as a student was festive Fridays and ping pong club, an organization he and his friends began.
