Evans not only competes in the 800 meter, 400 meter, and 4×400 meter relay. Her current best time for the 800 meter is 2:36, and her 400 meter best time is 67 seconds.

“Though Paige is a quiet member of our team, she seems to not fear the challenge of competing against others,” said coach Mr. Eric Benjamin.

Evans hopes that either by the end of this season, or the end of her high school career she will have broken the record for the 800 meter run. The record is currently held by Casey Welsh, with a time of 2:25.

“By really pushing myself I think I can do it because I definitely have the support from my teammates,” said Evans.

Although Evans doesn’t consider herself a leader on the team yet, as she does not have the experience the upperclassmen on the team have, Evans still tries to set an example for the other athletes by motivating them to do the best they can , and to help them when needed.

“She [Evans] has a good attitude, and she’s supportive of everyone on the team. Although she’s only a freshman, she runs really well and always works hard at practice,” said senior Ellen Shepherd.

“Every time I run a race, I always want to improve and work hard at practice to become a stronger, better runner,” said Evans.

Evans decided to try out for the Track & Field team because she run for the Harford County Track Club in 7th grade, and enjoyed running with her team. Her favorite part about track is being able to run with friends.
“I find that running makes me a happier person, and when I’m running it clears my mind and makes me feel free,” said Evans.
