Scarlet Dare has been coming to NH since she was a little girl;  first at her mom’s( Mrs. Kira Dare) side and now as a student.

Before she was ever a student, Dare was a very active actress for the school plays. Her first play was in fifth grade, at which time she played a role in the musical Les Mis.  Drama teacher Mrs.Nancy Green recognized she had a good voice and wanted Dare to audition.  “I’ve been doing it(plays) ever since because it’s really fun,” said Dare.

Outside of musical theater, Dare also has a wide variety of interests.   Last summer, Dare volunteered at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace. “I worked in the emergency room and pretty much got to learn how a hospital works and got to help patients and things like that.”

Dare says she enjoys having her mom as a teacher at the school because if she needs something her mother is there. If it wasn’t for Dare’s mother being a teacher here she probably wouldn’t be going here because she got a boundary exception. “She’s(Dare’s mother) embarrassing but other than that it’s fun,” said Dare.

This year, Dare is the lead in an upcoming musical, The Sound of Music. Dare is very excited because it was her favorite musical as a little girl. “I think Maria’s character is awesome and I’m so excited to get to work with all the kids and everyone and take on this; I’m ready,” said Dare.

For auditions, Dare had to prepare a song and a monologue.  During callbacks  Dare read for the part of Maria and sang one of her songs. After some ensemble building her and the other cast members will get their scripts and work on the choreography and the music.
