Unpopular opinion: Caitlyn Jenner is not someone who deserved to win Woman of The Year.

Jenner said, “The hardest thing a girl has to do is pick what to wear.”

Really?  How would she know?

Jenner was brought up as a famous, rich, white male. She did not face any struggles that girls face today. She doesn’t know the extent of inequality, and has not experienced it firsthand.

This is the 21st century, Caitlyn. Not everyone is rolling around in money and fame like you.

You don’t know any of the struggles we face. Not only that, but you turned your entire transformation into a publicity stunt. Airing your reality show I Am Cait, doing interviews, posing for pictures for magazine covers- all of it was to make money.

While I have significant respect for her transition, I have no respect for the things she has done.

This includes killing a man with her million dollar car. Accident or not, she committed vehicular manslaughter and wasn’t charged.  How could someone like this, with no voice but the one of a materialistic, privileged billionaire, be awarded Woman of the Year? She has also done nothing to support other transgender people. Isn’t that what she’s all about?

She promised to be a voice for transgender people, but all she has done is a lot of talking about what she plans to do. Sorry, but that doesn’t count. When she actually contributes something to make a difference, let me know. I will be first in line to cheer her on.

Every woman who was nominated for the Woman of the Year award has succeeded in making the world a better place. From fighting for women’s rights to something as simple as speaking out against bullying, they all deserved to be nominated.

But not Caitlyn.

Now Malala, the young girl who got shot in the eye defending women’s right to education, she’s deserving of being recognized as Woman of the Year.   Though she was nominated for Woman of the Year, she was beat out by Caitlyn, who has accomplished nothing but making more money off her fame.                   She is someone who doesn’t know what being a woman is all about, someone who has so little respect for life that she murdered a human being and didn’t pay penance for it.  She is someone who is the opposite of a struggling transgender person, who faces backlash in a few hateful Instagram comments online.

No, Caitlyn Jenner. You cannot call yourself one of us until you experience the difficulties we face. Until you walk in our shoes, and we don’t wear $1000 designer heels like you.  And most certainly you didn’t deserve the title of Woman of the Year.
