Grown Ups 2 experiences ‘growing’ pains

Released on July 12, Grown Ups 2 had most audiences disappointed. Despite the undeniable humor, the overall plot was irrefutably dull and predictable.

Grown Ups 2 starred Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and many, MANY other big names, including Taylor Lautner. What could go wrong, right? Wrong.

Lenny (Adam Sandler) has relocated his family back to the small town where he and his friends (Kevin James, Chris Rock, and David Spade) grew up. The adventures begin when Lenny’s daughter leaves the front door open, and a deer gallavants all through their house on the morning of the last day of school. In this sequel, the grown ups are learning from their children.

This group of comedic geniuses have starred in many a successful film together in the past, but for some reason, this collaboration just did not work. Some critics found it ‘okay’, while others found it absolutely distasteful.

“While it’s certainly the movie event of the year for filmgoers passionate about deer piss humor, Grown Ups 2 will bore, annoy, and disgust audiences of nearly every other persuasion,” stated movie-critic website, rottentomoatoes.com.

While it appeared that Sandler was playing the lead, there were so many famous actors that it was difficult to concentrate on any single one.

“I didn’t find it interesting because there were too many big names and the movie didn’t focus on one particular character,” agreed sophomore Jacob Bemb.

At times, it seemed that Sandler wasn’t taking his humorous lines seriously. Perhaps he needs to take a break from these back-to-back movies, and just relax and get back to where he was a couple of years ago.

“[Grown Ups 2 is] an average Adam Sandler comedy, which, sadly, means it’s a below-average comedy — because whatever comedic fire and bursts of genuinely inspired humor Sandler once possessed have long ago burnt out,” stated Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun- Times.

Regardless of its shortcomings, this movie had the audience laughing pretty regularly. Although, in retrospection the plot appears weak and the graphics and effects sub-par, Grown Ups 2 was a relatively decent, definitely amusing, film.
