Man of Steel: steals viewer’s hearts

    The new movie Man of Steel had something for everyone. Nerds: Superman, widely considered an American cultural icon and arguably the world’s best superhero. Guys and kids: Action packed adventure that leaves viewers feeling every punch. Parents: The message, “Hope and love are the greatest forces of all.”  Ladies: Henry Cavill, enough said.

   At $125.1 million, Man of Steel holds the record for the largest June opening weekend ever. Compared to earlier Superman adaptations it’s a landslide. Released in late June 2006, Superman Returns opened with $52.53 million. Superman starring Christopher Reeve total gross collected $134.21 million at the box office in 1978. Man of Steel current gross was $281.5 million as of July 15.

    Superman has been around since the 30’s,appearing in 1933 after writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster created him. Superman (A.K.A. Clark Kent) first appeared in Action Comics 1, now considered one of the most valuable comic books in the world.

  Crash landing on earth when he was a baby Clark Kent grew up to become a reporter at the ‘Daily Planet’ in Metropolis. Superman has many powers, including super-speed, super-strength and x-ray vision.

    The movie focuses on Clark Kent as a young man, finding his place in the world that adopted him, ­­understanding the world he should’ve belonged to and then protecting each.      “[For me] Superman is this adopted son, this immigrant story, this guy trying to find his place in the world. What’s his purpose, what is he supposed to do, how is he supposed to be?,” said Man of Steel’s director Zach Snyder, the same director of Watchmen and 300.

The cast of The Man of Steel includes: Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent/ Kal-El, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Kevin Costner as Jonathon Kent and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.
