Chorus concert spreads holiday cheer

The auditorium was serenaded with the voices of the North Harford choirs on December 4, starting at seven. Audience members took their seats after donating can goods for the Mason Dixon Food Pantry and receiving a program, designed by seniors Zoe Bieckert and Holly Ciampaglio.

The women’s choir kicked off the chorus’ winter concert with Sleigh Ride, under the direction of student director, Brittany Hadaway accompanied by, chorus teacher, Angela Jones. Freshman, Sarah Burton, accompanied the choir on their next piece, Joseph’s Lullaby,

“This was such a good experience and I loved being able to not only sing but also play the piano,” Burton stated after her concert.

The women’s choir wrapped up their performance with a cultural song, African Noel.

The men’s choir took the stage next and began their production with Little St. Nick and soloists Wade McCartin, Luke Miller, Finn Bucci and Aaron Rogers. Senior, Nick Giannasca student directed the next piece, The Sleigh. Sam Piccirilli, soloed in the final song, Betelehemu, with Ciampaglio, Giannasca and Garrett Thomas on percussion.

“I think that the men’s choir did really well, everyone sang the best that they could and showed their talent out there,” Piccirilli stated.

The Lilacs, Hayley Boliek, Erin Cullum, Melanie Hemling, Hannah Herron, Ashley Moser, and Emma Nystrom presented a rendition of Hark the Herald Angels Sing followed by Giannasca, Noah League, and Chase Reeves, also know as the Majestics, singing Carol of the Bells.

“We did pretty well, we just forgot the lyrics to the last verse but other than that it was fine,” Nystrom stated.

The Bel Canto choir, consisting of mostly sophomores and juniors girls, delivered interpretations of Let it Snow!, Ave Maria and Ring Those Christmas Bells, conducted by senior, Kaitlyn Hopkins.

Acapella group, the Harmonics, composed of seniors, Ciampaglio, Giannasca, Hadaway, Becky Jump, League, Madison Riggo, and Piccirilli, performed a Christmas Jazz: Santa Claus is Comin’/ O Christmas Tree, O Holy Night, and Holly Jolly.

“The concert was bittersweet, it was all of the Harmonics last winter concert, but we finished strong,” Jump stated.

Chamber choir serenaded that audience with O Magnum Mysterium, and White Winter Hymnal with soloists, Piccirilli, and Reeves. Additionally cellist , Mark Heinly, bassist , junior, David Boegner, violinist and senior Roy Oh, and clarinets, Nicole Livingston, accompanied the Chamber Choir on their rendition of Bashana Haba’ah .

To conclude the winter concert each choir returned to stage in order to sing a combined performance of Gloria in Excelsis followed by a sing-a-long. Audience members were encouraged to join in songs, Deck the Halls, Jingle Bells and Rudolph.

“It [the concert] was good, it was two weeks earlier than usual and the students had off for Thanksgiving break,” Jones stated, “I really think that they rallied the weight together well.”
