Many streaming services including, Hulu, Netflix, and Disney plus have released many new movies and shows during the long quarantine. Some shows and movies have also begun filming recently including a new season of the popular show Stranger Things set to release sometime before at least July 2021.

New shows that have recently been released include Ratched, an American psychological thriller series about a nurse who works at a mental institution and she eventually becomes a monster to her patients. It currently only has 1 season with 8 episodes. North Harford High sophomore Ian Calhoun recently finished this show. He states how, “I love Sarah Paulson, which is the reason I started it, and the overall topic of the show being creepy and mysterious is really interesting to me.” He also rated it a 4/5 saying how he, “wished the ending was better.”

Another popular Netflix show that has recently come out is The Haunting of Bly Manor, a gothic romantic drama series about a young governess who arrives at the manor and begins to see apparitions that haunt the estate. The series has 1 season and 9 episodes. North Harford High sophomore Genevieve Sudbrink has watched this series and says how she “loves the show.” Sudbrink says how she, “liked the inclusion of LGBTQ characters and a lesbian romance story. I thought that was cool and not done very often. I started watching it because I like spooky stuff and it caught my interest.” Sudbrink rated the show a 4/5 because, “I liked the LGBTQ representation and I thought it was an intriguing plot and idea that was very captivating to watch. The only thing I didn’t like was the actress who played the nanny. I’m not a fan of the actress and her voice was annoying.”

Some students have also mentioned watching the Netflix original Grand Army which follows high schoolers in Brooklyn, New York and their experiences with growing up and navigating through the high school atmosphere. It currently has 1 season with 9 episodes each averaging around 50 minutes. Sophomore Anna Koerber has recently watched this series. “I started watching it because my sister was, and she liked it a lot. I would rate it a 4/5, it’s good, I love the feminism that takes place in the show and I enjoy how realistic it is in the real world, but it’s not my favorite show.”

Some more shows coming to Netflix soon are, season 9 of American Horror Story arriving on November 13, season 4 of The Crown coming November 15, and many more new shows and movies.
