Buon Gusto expands with close family ties

In 1999, after the death of her father, an aspiring pizza shop owner opened a restaurant in her father’s honor. Thus the restaurant Delta Pizza was added to small town Whiteford.

Katie and Lorenzo Mannino are the owners of the pizza shop, and in memoriam of Katie’s father they decided to start the sub and pizza shop on the corner of the route 165 and 136 intersection.

In 2009, Delta Pizza changed its name due to a falling out with their partner in this mindset they changed the name to Buon Gusto. In italian ‘buon gusto’ means good taste.

“We take that to mean it was good taste that you came to us, that we get to serve you and that we’ve become who we are on our own,” said Mannino.

Recent attention has been added to the restaurant through multiple outlets. Several Ravens football players held a signing in Buon Gusto, according to Katie Mannino, “the outcome and outpouring was a bit overwhelming.”

Until recently the restaurant remained local based but additions had to be made due to an increase in popularity. In 2004 the decision was made to expand to include a dining area. And in 2013, more tables were added outside for additional seating for patrons.

“We have never believed in advertising. We’ve always felt that we are a mom and pop shop and that word of mouth was enough,” said Mannino.

“Restaurants may run gimmicks or advertising, where as Lorenzo and I want us to like our food and make new friends,” said Mannino.
