Focus on the turkey, not the Christmas lights

bethAh, it’s that time of year again, the leaves are changing, football is in full swing, and everyone has their minds on the upcoming holidays. Unfortunately, they’re constantly forgetting the most heartfelt and important holiday — Thanksgiving.
It’s easy to get caught up in all the commotion that Halloween, Christmas, and even Black Friday bring, but we mustn’t forget the day devoted to all our blessings. Halloween is a perfect night for everyone to dress in costume, gather together, and acquire a teeth-rotting amount of candy. However, as the clock strikes midnight on October 31, people’s mindset makes a 180 from ghouls and goblins and quickly turns to elves and presents.
Christmas is equally as important, don’t get me wrong but there is no need for us to forget one important holiday for another. The months of November and December s
Don’t get me wrong, Halloween is loads of fun, and so is Christmas, but they just don’t compare to Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a day filled with good food, football and most importantly giving thanks to all our blessings. No one seems to truly see how blessed they are any other day of the year and now that Thanksgiving is getting looked over, no one is taking the time. In fact, it won’t surprise me one bit if the turkey is overcooked and dry this season because someone was too busy putting up Christmas lights.
Thanksgiving is one of the only holidays in which families can gather around the table, exchange old stories without expecting a single gift in return. We have become so accustomed to exchanging gifts that we have forgotten to rejoice about all the blessings we already have. So this holiday season, pack away the Halloween candy, leave the Christmas decorations in the basement and enjoy the family time.
