India bans rape interview

Women should be silenced. Women should be taught a lesson or two. Women have no business walking around at night by themselves. These are the thoughts inside the mind of a rapist, a sick, deranged human being with no respect for human life.

An Indian court recently banned the publication of an interview with a rapist who blamed his victim, saying she “should just be silent and allow the rape.” In 2012, this “man” Mukesh Singh, along with four others, attacked and raped a woman on a public bus, who later died from her injuries. The suspects have all been convicted and have been sentenced to death by hanging, yet they feel no remorse for their crime.

How. How could five people openly attack an innocent woman on a PUBLIC bus? How could they brutally rape her and leave her for dead? Out of five people, how was it that not one of them thought just for a single, solitary moment, “Maybe she has a family. Maybe she has a future. Maybe she is someone.” Did they honestly think that what they were doing was justified? It’s sickening.

In an interview with BBC, Singh said, “A decent girl won’t roam around at 9 o’clock at night. A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy. Boy and girl are not equal.” Excuse me? How is a woman walking around at night, minding her own business, responsible for rape?

Who is teaching these monsters that this is okay? They are the ones who deserve to die, not the woman.

It is 2015. We have fought countless wars and millions of lives have been lost as a result of the push for human rights. I simply cannot grasp the concept that after all of these battles, our brothers and sisters may be brutally murdered by someone who says “they deserved it.” Shouldn’t we be bringing these issues to light so that we can show the rest of the world what we’re doing wrong? Why are we keeping these issues a secret? Censorship is not always the answer. And in this case, it’s letting the bad guys win- again.
