My internet big sister; This is your sign to find your own

JACKIE BULTMAN, Video Editor

Is it weird to say that a girl on a screen changed my life? Now granted she exists in real life,  but I only know her through the internet. And yet it feels like I know her as a “in the flesh friend.”

This girl is Indy Blue. With a name like that she must be important and she is, at least to me.

Social media presence, Instagram influencer, and proud owner of her brand Lonely Ghost. Indy writes blog posts or narratives that relate directly with each of her clothing drops.

But the best way to connect with her is through Instagram, where she pours her heart into paragraph long captions about the tender emotions of life.

To me, there is just something different about being raw on the internet-a place full of ugly people who hide behind digital veils.

To spew out your raw emotions and struggles in a place where it can be instantly slaughtered, is an act of courage. And yet in this effort, she has developed a community of like minded people. People who relate to the same emotions or just people who are touched by her ability to put emotions into words.

Each of her clothing drops for Lonely Ghost promotes ideas of building each other up, contrasting society’s urge to break each other down whether we mean it or not.

Like her “Cool2Care” line featuring a monologue for girls who felt like they always cared too much about things in life. She emphasizes embracing being the friend that cares, or the girl that gets attached too easily. Because it’s 2021. It’s cool to care.

Or, her “Self-Love Club” line, a collection dropped on Valentine’s for all the single girls out there. Be your own Valentine, she says. Then highlights the need to rewire your brain that loving yourself is nothing to be ashamed of. She provides resources full of self love tips and all the instances where you need to love yourself.

Her messages are exactly what every teenage girl needs to hear when they are in the “self discovery” stage. Her persona has made me more confident and most importantly challenged me to embrace who I am as an individual. And I know for a fact she is not the only influencer out there who would help you achieve the same.

So, I am telling you to go find your own Indy Blue.

Go find someone who feels and sounds like you. Go find a positive influence on a normally toxic social media platform.

Because I just know every girl needs an online big sister.
