BBQ Bash: Jarrettsville Pit opens for business in June

Jarrettsville, Maryland is already home to many local businesses, and another new restaurant will open its doors in this area in just a few weeks.
Jarrettsville Pit is co-owned by Mark Slezak, Jess Sidlowski, and Dana Slezak. Though the restaurant is currently under renovation, the three plan to open for business on June 13 and the hours of operation will be daily from 11am to midnight or even later.
Slezak describes Jarrettsville Pit as “a place where people can come and get the best barbeque they’ve ever had.” So what makes the Jarrettsville Pit unique? “It will be a family-friendly atmosphere where you can watch sports or listen to music,” Slezak and Sidlowski agreed.
As for the menu, prices for things like sandwiches, soups, and salads will be around $8 and meat platters around $15. Slezak also said that “all types of barbeque, fresh dough pizza with our own special recipe” will be available. The restaurant will also be able to host private parties from Monday through Thursday. The restaurant will feature live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
When asked how the restaurant got its name Slezak said, “It was a play on words from a barbeque pit, like the ones people have in their backyards.” Sidlowski stated, “We actually thought it was a funny name at first.”
Opening day at Jarrettsville Pit will include live music and food specials. They will have advertisments up all over Jarrettsville. More information is available on their Facebook page and their website, jarrettsvillepit.com.
The owners have already begun the hiring process. “We have taken many applications and have just started the interview process,” said Slezak, who says they are looking for employees who are “responsible, want to learn but can also have fun.” Applications for employment are available at [email protected].
According to Slezak, good business owners keep a restaurant thriving by being “active managers, and being at the facility to run it properly and being respectful because it’s hard to be successful when you’re absent.”
