Heavy Hearted Movies; When you need good cry

     Sad movies? Do you like them? Many students really enjoy watching sad movies in their free time. Some popular sad movies are “Five Feet Apart”, “A dog’s purpose”, and “All the Bright Places. 43 percent of students like sad movies and 57 percent of students do not like to watch sad movies.

     Watching sad movies gives us a feeling of empathy and you bond with the characters more. You also may feel grateful and appreciative after watching sad movies, it may make you feel appreciative for the life you have and understand the struggles of other people. 

    Junior Maddie Rutch said “I like crying as well as feeling emotion. I also really like to connect with the characters and be sad with the characters.” Cole Younger disagreed with Ruth’s statement and said “I do not like the feeling of being sad and wouldn’t want to put myself through feeling sad unless I had to.”

     Junior Eli Brown said that his favorite sad movie was “A Dog’s Purpose.” His favorite scene was when the dog was running through the field. He thought it was a heartfelt moment in the movie. “I may have shed a tear or two over the movie, I love dogs, it was sad.” 

     Junior Isabella Southard’s favorite sad movie is “Five Feet Apart.” “The whole premise of the movie is just so sad. They are unable to be together because of their sickness. I have never cried so hard at the end of the movie before.” The acting in the movie is so perfect. The ending scenes really make you feel what the characters are feeling in that moment, said Southard. Junior Valorie Radel also said that “Five Feet Apart” was her favorite. She said that a “good cry once in a while is always nice.” Five Feet Apart was released in 2019 and is now on Netflix.

     Senior Vance Haire said that when he was younger around seven he cried over “Cat in the Hat.” “I was really upset when the kids were mean to the cat, it made me really upset, I cried over it .” 

     Junior Piper Wright said her favorite was “Marley and me.” Wright said she doesn’t like to cry especially when a dog dies “it just makes me cry much harder. It makes me think of my own dog and I would be so upset if she were to die.”

     The Disney movie up was also a popular movie that most people found sad. Junior Kaley Mullhausen said “Up” was sad when Carl’s wife died. “It was also sad when Carl handed Russell the grape soda pin at the very end of the movie. Junior Adam Brown agreed with Kaley, he thought “Up” was sad. He remembered watching it as a child and being sad while watching it.
