Underclassman make varsity squads, contribute to success of team

There’s no denying that North Harford is tremendously talented, yet some students shine so bright that they make varsity teams even as underclassman. Those who go to see any game can always tell who the younger members of the teams are, not through lack of skill, but often by their smaller size and tenacious attitude.

Freshman Brooke Ciampaglio, a freshman on varsity field hockey said, “It’s really fun. Everyone is really nice especially during tryouts. It’s nice to know that someone has your back.”

Other freshmen playing up see advantages as well.  They say that being on varsity allows them  not only get to be with people their age, but with upperclassman. According to some of these athletes, they feel it is always nice knowing people outside their grade, and they get more acclimated to the school and feel more welcome.

Senior Tyler Grubb, a member of the boys soccer team, stated that, “The underclassman come to all the dinners, and they score a lot of goals in the games. Chris Romaniello scored the most goals on the team so far!”

“I really like how varsity has a high level of skill and they take the sport more seriously. I really feel like I am being challenged as a player,” said Katey Ketell, a sophomore  varsity volleyball player.

Sophomore Gabby Pfaff, a member of the varsity volleyball team, remarked, “On varsity I get a lot of individual attention to really focus on what I am good at and everyone really gets along.”
