Sunshine’s Angels, Inc. is a non-profit organization with the goal of helping children who, at a very young age, experienced trauma or grief.
This year’s race is planning to be much different than years past. Held at Falling Branch Brewery, the main events will include an off road 5k and new, additional 10k. “It will be more like a festival now, with vendors and other sorts of activities for people of all ages,” said President/Founder Vicki Bull.
After her daughter Sunshine’s tragic accident in 2008, Bull’s family was at a loss. She found her and her grandchildren could greatly benefit from grief counseling. “Even if your insurance covers it all but a copay, even that can add up,”
Bull also added “People don’t always recognize the need for therapy for grief, because kids don’t always know how to process grief and it can take time.”
Bull found herself wanting to help more people who had shared experiences. “I felt a need to help children who aren’t lucky enough to have access to the therapy they need to cope with their grief and trauma.”
So far over the past 8 years, Sunshines Angels has been able to raise and donate over $120,000. “All proceeds get sent out too four local charities, Olivia’s house, Roberta’s house, PEACE, and a hospice/ grief center in Anne Arundel County (Chesapeake Lifecenter)”
“We are all going to experience grief in our lifetime,” said Bull. She wanted people to know she needs as much help as she can get to spread the word. “The more money we raise the more children we can help, It’s so heartwarming.”
Always held the last Sunday in April, the date for the 2018 race will be April 29. For more information on Sunshines Angels, you can contact Vicki Bull at (443-807-2649) or visit http://www.sunshinesangels.com/.
