The fall sports season has just ended and winter sports have started but  fall sportsmanship awards have just been announced.

Football, boys soccer, and girls and boys cross country teams were among the winners. . The captains who once lead the team are now being congratulated for leading their team to win the prized award.

Senior cross country runner and captain Dylan Kapustensky feels as it is a great achievement to win for his last year as a cross country runner. “We put in a lot of work and I feel like we have a really good team this year,” Kapustensky states.  He commented that in order to win this award the team has to get along as well as being good sports.

Junior runner and captain Erin O’Leary thinks “it’s so cool that we won the award.” It also makes her “so happy that the team was recognized for how supportive they were to their own teammates and other teams they ran again.” O’Leary says that the girls team was “always so supportive and enthusiastic for their teammates and other teams.”

On the soccer side, senior boys soccer captain and goalie Mill Heinze added that “as a team it’s a great accomplishment” and “it just means that we are overall just a great team we aren’t some ‘bad guys’ going around making problems on the field.” Heinze does admit that the award “isn’t that big of a deal” but he says “it does bring a little sense of pride to our school.”

Senior captain Bobby Duffy says he feels that “the winners of the award are a little more respected.” Duffy says that the team has, in fact, won the sportsmanship award before.
