Bleachers, bright lights and the wide open expanse of the turf. The stands are full of your friends and classmates cheering you on.

Countless cheesy high school novels and movies have centered around this. And people get full ride scholarships to college if they’re good enough.

The All Star Football game features the best of the best who are elected from teams across the county to face off in a game to end the season.

The selection process is simple; four to five seniors from each school in the county are selected by their coaches to be recommended for the team. Those players are then formed into two groups to make up the North and South teams. After that, the teams meet up at Edgewood for a week of practice before the showdown.

Senior Bobby Duffy,  who was recommended for the team from our school, said “a common practice would be, like, running and stuff, but these practices are more team building and team chemistry stuff since we don’t know each other that well yet.”

During the game, the coach made a random rotation for the players to go out on the turf, according to Duffy. The game ended with the North team winning, however, most North Harford players were on the South team.

“I enjoyed getting to work with talented people, and a change in faces was good,” Duffy said. “But the highlight of that week was definitely getting Popeyes since I was already in Edgewood anyway.”
