Boys and girls basketball recently ended their playoff journey. The boys’ varsity team went 8-12 this season, beating North East in their first regional game 69-58. Senior captain Austin Smith says, “As a team, we expected to win our first playoff game which we did, but I think we all really wanted to play in the semis.”

The boys fought a tough game but lost to Elkton, 73-52. “Next year I hope the team works even harder and continues to get better. And of course, the team better beat Fallston twice again,” Smith adds.

Junior Dylan Jablon, also a captain adds, “We really wanted to win our first regional game. We knew beating Elkton would be a stretch because we never played them during the regular season, but we all fought hard.”

Jablon says next year, he hopes to win the lower league and get a regional championship.

Sophomore Garrett Reinecke, who was pulled up for playoffs,  made a big impact in their first game. Reinecke says, “it felt really good that in my first varsity game I made an impact on my team.” Reinecke also added that next year the team will be very young which might be challenging at first, but the team will also become very successful and beat most teams. The boys team all agreed their proudest moment was not only beating Fallston once, but twice.

The girls’ basketball team went 8-11, beating North East in their first regional game 42-28. Junior captain Lily Macatee says, “Going into playoffs I thought we would go really far. We had a good spot in our bracket to where we could have won regionals. It sucks we lost to a team who we could have beat;  it just makes our team stronger and more driven for next year’s season.”

The girls lost their second regional playoff game to Harford Tech, 51-42. “Next year our goal is to beat Harford Tech both times. When we played them in our regular season game we won, but unfortunately when we needed to win it slipped away” Macatee adds. “I love my team and we absolutely killed it this season. Despite how we lost, we are all so close and I consider all the girl’s family,” says Macatee.

The girls team had four freshmen this year on varsity, one of them being Lillian Duffy. “This season I was really proud of myself and everyone. We all worked together and in games we never argued and were always so supportive. Next season I hope to get more rebounds and win regionals,” Duffy says.
