Junior Alyssa Edwards, goalie on the North Harford girls varsity lacrosse team, has been committed to Towson University for Women’s Lacrosse in Division I. Edwards has been playing lacrosse since the sixth grade and “decided I wanted to play goalie my first season.”

After the first rec season for the Hawks, Edwards tried out for her first club team. Throughout her lacrosse career, she has played for the Hawks rec team, Wolfpack, Elite Lacrosse, and Skywalkers.

Edwards notes that “I am now on the top nationally ranking, Skywalkers Blue 2023,” which practices every Sunday. She also has her own goalie training with special coaches on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. Edwards says, “I do strength and conditioning whenever I can squeeze it in” as part of her training schedule.

Not only did Edwards look at Towson University, but she “talked to and visited a bunch of schools.” These included James Madison University, Penn State, UCONN, The Johns Hopkins University, and Boston University. According to Edwards, “Towson was my last and favorite visit.”

At first, Edwards dream school was James Madison University. Unfortunately she says, “a senior ended up using her eligibility for a fifth year, so they [JMU] didn’t take a 2023 goalie.” From this point, Towson became Edwards’ new dream school where she says, “by talking to the coaches and players, I could tell I would fit in really well.”

Edwards says that “trying out for the top national showcase events like Under Armor All American, Under Armor 150, and American Select” is the best way to get Towson or any D1 team to notice you. Edwards made all of these national showcases in 2021, “which got the attention of many coaches.”

According to Edwards, it was much of a relief when she heard about her commitment. She notes, “it has definitely been a roller coaster, after I lost my top school choice spot to a returning fifth year senior.”

Edwards notes, “all of my friends, family, teammates, and coaches have been super supportive” on her recent accomplishments. She is “so thankful to have so many people behind me.”

After high school graduation, Edwards plans on taking a few weeks off from lacrosse. After a short break, most of my senior summer will consist of training and working out to prepare for playing in college.” Because it is extremely hard to get playing time as a freshman in college, “I will do everything I can to get playing time on the field.”
