Last week, boys’ lacrosse went into their playoffs making it to the second round. According to County Sports Zone, they went into the playoffs with a 9-5 record.

The boys finished their regular season with a record of 10-5. On May 11 they played Elkton High School at home in the first round of playoffs, and played Kent Island away on May 13, ultimately losing 3-27.

Junior Kian Pucher is in his first year of high school lacrosse. He described how his season is going “pretty good so far, even though it’s almost over”, said Pucher.

“We have definitely gotten a lot better as the season has gone on. We have really stuck together. As the season is finishing up, the teams that we’re playing are getting harder, and we’ve just been doing better against better teams.”

Junior Colin McDermott agreed with Pucher, saying his season went “pretty well too.” McDermott said, “the team has improved by a lot over time that we’ve played more difficult teams. [He]  think[s] the tougher play level from higher teams pushes [the team] all to work harder during games and practices.”

Going along with Pucher and McDermott, junior Brennan Leonard said his season has been “decent”. Leonard is in his first year of NH lacrosse and said, “Lacrosse has just been a lot more fun this year because it isn’t as strict.”

When talking about the improvements this season, Leonard said, “We’ve definitely improved our ball movements all around the field. We’ve come together as an offense, and some defense players have really stepped up. We have a couple losses, but we have more wins than losses, so I think that shows a lot about our improvement.”

Though McDermott, Pucher, and Leonard got to be on the field, junior player Wyatt Ralph cheered from the sideline due to an ACL injury during his fall football season. “Coach Ralph”, as the team called him, says that since the beginning of the season, he stated, “The team has improved tremendously. The team has just come together as a whole. The offense is scoring a lot and the defense is getting their job done, too. There’s been more sideline hype than we’ve had in a while as well.”

On the topic of nearing playoffs, “Coach Ralph” is sad to see the seniors leaving at the end of the season. “[He’s] going to miss the seniors a lot. They bring life to [our] team, and they’re funny. [He] like[s] it when [the seniors] do dumb stuff that makes the whole team laugh,” says Ralph.
