Students wind down year with events;

Senior picnic, class trip planned

As the year comes to a close, there are just a few things that are left for the seniors to do: the senior trip, the senior picnic, Baccalaureate, and  graduation.
One of the main activities that the seniors look forward to is the senior trip to Hershey Park. The trip was originally scheduled for May 18. However, Hersheypark does not open for weekdays before Memorial Day. Therefore, the date of the trip was changed to saturday May 27.
History teacher, Benjamin Scarborough, helped with planning the trip and commented that because graduation is so early, the date of the senior trip had to be early.
This combined with a mistake made by Hersheypark selling tickets for a date they were not open caused the trip to be rescheduled. “We didn’t catch it, Hersheypark didn’t catch it, and so as a result we were in a tough situation which we had to find an alternate date and he only date that would work was the 27th.“ Scarborough said.
Due to the changed date, a lot of students have chosen not to going on the senior trip. Senior Natalie Hood remarked that. “It’s gonna be kind of hard for people to go because it’s Memorial Day weekend so a lot of people have plans and that’s when graduation parties start.” Senior Hannah Herron completely agrees.  Herron added that seniors have to go in for school on the 18th.  “So there’s  nothing we could have done about it but it is what it is. It just sucks it happened to us.”
While the senior trip isn’t going to have a big student attendance the seniors can still look forward to the senior picnic. The senior picnic allows students to spend most of the day together at the Harford County 4-H camp. The seniors will complete graduation practice and after  take a bus to the 4-H camp at 12pm and stay there until 4pm.
Planning for the picnic requires a lot of time. English teacher Christine Allred says planning starts at the beginning of the year. “Ms. Smick has to organize the caterer, the location, and the DJ.”  It takes quite a few months to plan for.
According to Allred, the senior picnic allows the seniors to get together in one place as a class and celebrate their graduation and the time they have spent together. “It’s in a very informal setting. There’s a pool on the facility, there’s a stream, there’s volleyball. So they could really just enjoy each other’s company.”
Senior Hailey Schlough is excited to spend the last few days of high school with her peers, she claims she is most looking forward to “enjoying the calm and relaxing times.”
