‘Chipping’ away COVID-19 with infamous recipes; Chocolate chip cookies bring Disney’s magic home

Due to COVID-19, both Disney locations in Florida and California have been temporarily closed. Since no one is able to visit the ‘happiest place on earth’, Disney took action, bringing the most popular park snacks to kitchens across the globe. By releasing park favorite recipes, everyone gets to bring a little part of the magic into their home.

As of the middle of April, Disney has released the recipes for their churros, Dole whips, chocolate chip cookies, french toast, grilled cheese, and beignets. Not only did Disney release these recipes, but they have done 360 degree videos of the most favorited rides in the parks, so tourists can still enjoy the parks while they are closed down.

The chocolate chip cookies were not like the easy Betty Crocker packets people buy at the grocery store. This recipe requires the dough being made from scratch. However, the ingredients were very simple and could easily be found in every kitchen.

The recipe originally is from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. The recipe contains only nine simple ingredients and a 10-12-minute baking time, anyone could make this recipe to celebrate the national chocolate chip cookie ay, on May 15 and to bring any Disney vacation nostalgia back home during quarantine.

One little hiccup that occurred was that the recipe called for one and three fourths cups of sugar. One cup of brown sugar and three fourths cup of powdered sugar. Which made the dough very sweet, almost too sweet. This created a little bit of concern when being placed into the oven, in hopes that it’s not as sweet as the dough was.

Another unusual thing was that the cookies spread out a lot. Even with using smaller balls of dough, the cookies spread out a great bit, making them very thin. This problem could have been solved by dough that was chilled, not room temperature.

The recipe states that this dough should make three dozen medium-sized cookies, or 18 large cookies. However, the dough ended up only making around a dozen large sized cookies, or about two dozen medium-sized cookies.

Although the cookies were thin, there wasn’t any burned part on them, which meant that they still baked evenly. Overall, the cookies had a very great taste despite their appearance. The overly sweet dough that was hard to eat, was now a perfectly great cookie, with just the right amount of sugary taste.

This sweet treat not only can cure boredom, but it can also satisfy a sweet tooth and bring the Disney magic home. Eating this dessert watching the virtual rides at Disney World and Disney Land, it is enough to bring back family memories from the happiest place on earth.
