Popular series ‘Bridgerton’ inspires new outfits; Netflix original sparks fashion trends for 2021

    The Netflix original series Bridgerton  is bringing new fashion trends on social media. Students at North Harford share their thoughts on the show. 

     Bridgerton is based on the romantic drama novel series written by Julia Quinn. The series is about eight siblings of the Bridgerton family and their journey to find love. The story is set in the Regency Era of England. The story follows the oldest daughter, Daphne Bridgerton and how she figures out society and tries to find a suitable marriage while trying to follow in her parent’s footsteps. 

     The show has inspired new trends where people are recreating the outfits and fashion on the show as TikTok and Instagram posts. The posts feature puffy sleeves, flowy dresses, pearls, decorative headpieces, lace detailing, silk dresses, floral prints, and corset tops.

     American costume designer Ellen Mirojnick is responsible for the fashion in the show. Other than Bridgerton, the Emmy-winning designer has worked on movies such as Wall Street, Fatal Attraction, The Greatest Showman, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and more, according to Fashionista News.

     The elegant outfit selection has students talking about the show. Sophomore Samina Dhani loves the series and the outfit selection, “I really love the outfits. They are beautiful and somewhat modern.  I also love the love scenes […] I loved when they fought for one another and showed their love even though they [Duke and Daphne] had a fight.” 

      Dhani says, “I have seen the trend, but I have not participated […] I would love to try that trend. I would love a corset. I love everything about that time period.” 

      Junior Alexis Woods says, “I have not seen it [outfit trend] to participate.” Woods  comments that, “Daphne has the best outfits because she was always wearing lightly colored outfits. She mostly wore blue throughout the whole show and she looked nice in every dress she wore.” 

     Dhani agrees, “definitely Daphne’s or the Queens. It’s so beautiful and the Queen’s Outfit is literally so crazy but Daphne’s is somewhat [more] modern than the rest.” 

      Woods says her favorite part of the show would have to be, “the time period and everyone’s outfits. This is because it is just beautiful and elegant. It was interesting to see the difference in how everything is in today’s society.” 

     She adds, “I would recommend the show to others because it was very suspenseful and just a good show overall. It is very different from most shows and I really enjoyed watching it.” Dhani says she recommends the show to those who haven’t seen it but, “it definitely depends on what you’ve watched before. Some people won’t like when it takes place, but I love the story line and it’s just amazing work.”
