28 years after the original Twister, a remake of the original hit theaters this past July. The disaster thriller starred Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos.
Twisters takes place in a small Oklahoma town, where a retired tornado chaser and meteorologist are brought back home to help a new team stop the spread of tornados. However, a social media influencer interferes with the new tornado tracking technology, both trying to save Oklahoma from destruction, according to IMDB. While the film wasn’t based on a true story or real people, the film did make the point that scientists still don’t know a lot about tornados and how to stop or prevent them.
Senior Jill Moore said she “loved the movie; it had catchy music and the story line was very inspirational.”
The film made $574 million worldwide, according to Variety. The movie was also the third biggest opening weekend of the year following Inside Out 2 and Dune: Part Two, continues Variety. Forbes Magazine speaks to the success of the remake due to its “successful marketing campaign” and that the film “highlights the key features that speak to its quality.”
While the film did not win any awards, it was nominated for a Golden Trailer Award for its blockbuster trailer, according to IMDB.
The music featured in the movie gave it an even bigger name with new songs from well-known country artists. Singers with featured songs include Luke Combs, Warren Zeiders, Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, Benson Boone, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Megan Moroney, Bailey Zimmerman, Kane Brown, Tyler Childers, Shania Twain, Breland, Leon Bridges, Chris Stapleton and more. Most of the artists debut new songs for the movie’s soundtrack. Luke Combs’ “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma” was featured in the movie’s trailer.
Twisters: The Album hit No. 7 on Billboard 200, according to Billboard. The movie is the first “country dominated soundtrack to a theatrically-released film to make the top 10 in the all-genre chart since 2011.” The remake’s soundtrack has peaked higher than the original that was at No. 28 (Billboard).
