After finishing off her opening set on The Eras Tour, singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams released her second studio album, The Secret of Us. The record became available on all streaming platforms on June 21, 2024.
The Secret of Us held a total of thirteen tracks, one feature record, and two music videos.
She began her tour in early September, kicking it off in Portland, Oregon. Since then, Abrams has played shows for venues such as the Greek Theater, Ryman, and Radio City Music Hall. At her shows, she plays every track from The Secret of Us, as well as tracks from her first two EPS and her first album, Good Riddance.
Senior Bianca Baker shares that she began listening to the singer “about a year ago,” and that she listened to the album “the day it came out.” The tracks “I love you, I’m sorry” and “Risk” were “immediate favorites” for Baker.
“The lyrics and production of the songs make me want to just dance,” she begins, “although her lyrics usually hold a lot of depth, she still does a good job at making the songs upbeat.” Although, some songs aren’t so dance worthy, according to Baker. “Some songs, like “Gave You I Gave you I,” and “Free Now” are too sad to jump around to in your room… There’s nothing upbeat about those songs. They’re just sad.”
Abrams is known for her sadder music. “Her past records consisted of slow, lyrically heavy songs,” according to Baker.
As of October, Abrams has teased a deluxe version of this album. She has sung surprise songs at each of her concerts, two of which being songs off the deluxe version. “Out of the songs we have heard, I really like the song “Cool,” because it has catchy lyrics and she sounded really good in the videos I saw on TikTok of her singing it.” Baker also adds that she has “high hopes,” that the unreleased song “In Between” will be on the deluxe album. “It’s such a cute love song, and I know a lot of people who love this song already and it’s not even released. I think it could be a big hit for Gracie.”
