Thursday, Nov. 7 completed the fourth season of Outer Banks. Following the October 10 premiere of the season, one month later, Part Two was released.
Season four puts the Pogues’ friendship to the test, tests many loyalties, strengthens many relationships, and adds to the list of enemies and new unexpected allies (Vulture).
The entirety of season four was split in half, releasing five episodes at a time. It has become common for a Netflix original show to be released this way.
Season four picks up 18 months after the find treasure in El Dorado, the Pogues now attempt to rebuild their Poguelandia oasis. The six Pogues – John B, Sarah, JJ, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo – are all faced with new problems; property taxes and zoning issues.
This season’s treasure hunt focuses on finding Blackbeard’s lost treasure while going head to head with “murderous treasure hunters, the Kooks and many daddy issues,” according to Vulture.
After discovering what Blackbeard’s missing treasure is, the Blue Crown, it leads the Pogues to Morocco in search of it. In Morocco, the Pogues are teamed up with a familiar face in search of their foe, Groff. The race for the Crown becomes deadly, as many lives are put on the line to get the treasure.
Both parts of season four focus on JJ Maybank, the Pogue who would do or risk anything for his friends. He has new shocking truths revealed about his family and history.
Senior Jill Moore says she “enjoyed this season a lot, even though TikTok spoiled the ending.” Moore adds that she can’t wait for the next season to come out.
The series producers, Shannon Burke, Josh Pate and Jonas Pate revealed 3 days before part 2 came out that Outer Banks had been renewed for its fifth and final season.
Burke and Pate reveal that season four was “our longest and hardest- but most rewarding- to produce.” They reveal that the season ends with “a feature length episode, which we think is our best, most powerful episode.” The producers hope the audience feels the same way. “Although, season five will be our best season yet,” Burke and Pate add.
