Playboi Carti has done it yet again: Teasing an album for a whole year and never dropping it. The album I AM MUSIC was introduced to the public in 2020 and has been spoken a bit briefly throughout the years, but it was alleged that Carti’s album would drop in 2024, but the real question is, will Carti even drop the album I AM MUSIC?
Carti’s discography is very small, but the music he dropped were hits which made a big name for him in the music industry, but just because he has some albums and popular songs does not always mean he delivers on time. According to soapcentral.com, “Carti has had notorious album delays through the years.” The hope for I AM MUSIC for Carti fans was slowly fading away.
Throughout all of 2024, Carti has teased his album, but he never named any tracks and did not even show an album cover. At the time, he just occasionally mentioned I AM MUSIC and that it will be dropping in 2024. Even though the album did not deliver, Carti still managed to drop seven singles like “DIFFERENT DAY,” “2024,” “H00DBYAIR” and going on different performances and tours. But, at this point, singles were not enough, according to fans. Yes, they made it clear they are happy they are getting at least something from Carti but it has been four years since Carti has released an album. They wanted I AM MUSIC.
Nearing the end of 2024, the only thing fans got was an album cover and three songs off the album previewed at Rolling Loud Miami, but his fanbase was fed up. Fans have accused Carti of “making ‘empty promises’ to his loyal following after announcing I AM MUSIC earlier [2024],” stated on the-sun.com. According to raptv.com, fans were so disappointed they made a petition that got 8,000 signatures, asking streaming services to ban Carti. The petition read, “We demand accountability. This petition calls for Playboi Carti to be banned from all music platforms until he honors his promises and demonstrates a genuine commitment to his fanbase. If artists cannot uphold the trust of their listeners, they should not be allowed to profit off their loyalty.”
Freshman Carter Hurley shares that he is “absolutely outraged at Carti for still not dropping I AM MUSIC. It was supposed to be 2024 music, but it’s 2025 and we still got no album.” He also went on to say, “like, he needs to drop. We have not had an album drop since Christmas of 2020; you know how long that is. Four years, going on five.”
Carti is also getting compared to famous rapper A$AP Rocky with album delays, with one tweet reading, “Playboi Carti and A$AP Rocky when it comes to having the WORST album rollouts ever.” Online fans even say that “2024 is the year of NO MUSIC.”
Will I AM MUSIC ever release? And could it be during 2025? Just because Carti previewed some songs and released an album cover does not reassure fans fully, so fans will have to wait this one out again but during 2025.
