September 28 marked the annual 2024-2025 school year homecoming dance, planned and hosted by the school’s Student Government Association, also known as SGA. With a theme of “A Night in Greece,” the cafeteria was covered in pink and blue decorations. The night of the dance was ushered in after a spirit week. The themes for each day of the week included pajama day, BBQ dads vs. soccer moms, teacher swaps, country vs. country club, and class colors day.
“Planning the dance was fairly easy; we started so early that I just used free time this summer to plan it,” says Senior Lilly Heath, who serves as the SGA president. Despite starting early, it still required “a lot of time went into planning the dance,” says Heath, “and lots of communication.”
While planning the dance was easy, there were still some challenges to overcome, “challenges that went with planning homecoming were just contacting the people we are using and getting into contact with students and teachers for approval since [the] dance was so early this year.” said Heath.
Another challenge was tickets quickly selling out before all students could get a ticket. “Students [should] get tickets before any of the guest tickets are released,” says sophomore Blakely Jackanicz. “I mean, like, freshman tickets are released on Friday and guest tickets are Monday.”
Overall, Homecoming “was good,” continues Jackanicz. “Very loud, but fun.” This year’s dance featured the new addition of Chick-fil-a catering the dance. “I liked the food, but larger water bottles are needed,” says Jackanicz. “I drank four and was still thirsty when it ran out. Large water bottles would help keep the number used per person down.”
This year’s homecoming court included seniors Bailey Smith, Alyza Robinson, Brianna Billings, Eden Hussung, Lillian Heath, Maggie Dawson, Natalie Barndt, Kylee Niederberger, Sophia Diebler, and Emma Clayton for queen. For king, the court included seniors Jake Rosenberger, Samuel Dibastiani, Mason French, Cael Sims, Chance Kobus, Tucker Deal, Jamail Holmes, Jameson Shelby, Justin Collins, and Jacob Jestel. At the end of the night, Holmes and Dawson were crowned king and queen, respectively.
For those who enjoyed the homecoming dance, there will be another dance this year. The dance will be on “January 11,” said Heath, and the dress code is, “semi-formal.”
