Seniors Madyson Pullen-Staiger, Lola Steele, and Brianna Billings have taken over the varsity club for the 2024-2025 school year. This is the varsity’s club’s second year back after the pandemic. Alumni Stella Manns, Noel Bailey, and Mekenzie McCann brought back the club to “bolster the school’s community and spirit as well as support all NH sports,” according to Manns.
Billings stated, “Taking over the club is very stressful, but worth it, especially when we saw the pep rally’s payoff. I had so much fun doing it because we did it all together.”
Pullen-Staiger stated, “You need to have patience because stuff takes time and people aren’t always cooperative, so you need communication skills. Seeing the results was definitely worth it.”
In order to be in the Varsity Club, students have to be a varsity athlete as well as actively participate in at least one of the club’s events. Being a member, students can gain community service hours as well.
Steele explains, “In past years, Varsity Club used to be more community-focused, so we really want to bring that aspect back this year, especially during the winter.”
She continued, “Our goals for this year is to make it to the point that everyone feels like they can be a part of something and the school community. I think a lot of people are scared to get involved, but we want them to feel like they can.”
Pullen-Staiger stated, “We want people to get excited about getting involved because we have so many plans for this upcoming year.”
Billings adds that, “I feel like a lot of varsity athletes just want to play their sports and not want to do anything else, so this club kind of forces them to get involved.”
She continues, “I feel like forcing them to do one thing will make them want to do more because they realize that it’s actually fun and we want them to have fun and also get involved in our school’s community.”
Meetings take place before every sporting season, which includes before winter and spring sports. Closer to events, there will be more meetings and emergency meetings as well.
The girls have lots of plans in the works. Currently they are working on approval for possible pep rallies to kick off every sporting season. Other plans include possibly adopting a family around Christmas time, possible food drives, and more community oriented activities in the winter. Varsity Club’s next event is the annual Powder Puff game with the senior and junior girls on Nov. 13 at 6pm on the turf.
