On Wednesday, Nov. 11, science teacher Mrs. Elizabeth Martin won the Everyday Hero Award at the Maryland Golf Country Club. She expresses her gratitude, stating “it was an honor to be recognized and feel appreciated by my administration and staff.”
The science teacher has accomplished numerous efforts for the sake of bettering our school. “Since starting at North Harford, I have taken over Student Government,” Martin explains, bringing “back events that have gone dormant at school.” She continues, “we have increased the opportunities for all students by providing more student-based events in our school, county, and state. This year, we had the largest homecoming and Fall Blood drive in the history of NHHS!”
For example, alongside the Student Government of NHHS and additional science teacher Mr. Robert Lamarr, they have successfully created multiple student based events such as Homecoming, Movie Night, Line Dancing, Pizza and Paint nights, the Spring Craft Show, Basket Bingo, and the Winter Semi-Formal Dance.
The teacher stated that, “Each year, we increase the fun options of Homecoming with games, an outdoor area, food, and more,” Martin starts. “We’re looking forward to more ideas and fun as our student council members continue to grow in numbers and diversity.
She continues, “We’re always looking for ideas to help our school grow in spirit and fun, so if you would love to see something new or make a change, I am your person to contact or our student council president [senior] Lillian Health via in person or email.”
In regards to Martin’s dedication to North Harford, our community is something she is “passionate” about. She expresses, “ I believe is cultivating a fun safe atmosphere that all students and staff want to be a part of. I will continue to help and fight for the needs of our school both in the building and county as challenges arise and our diversity continues to grow.”
She adds, “watching the growth of my students from freshman to senior year,” is the most rewarding part of her career. “I enjoy watching my students grow in many ways and enjoy building relationships with the students I teach and faculty I work with.” Martin then finishes, “This is an amazing school to be apart of and I am truly honored to be this year’s Everyday Hero.”
