Christmas Takes Over
Halloween has come a gone, what next you may ask? Christmas of course!
Halloween has come a gone, what next you may ask? Christmas of course!
Wrong.
Public Service Announcement: There is a month called November, and it contains a holiday with the title of Thanksgiving…since most of you have forgotten.
I kid you not, the DAY after Halloween, Michaels Crafts Store had a Christmas Tree up in their front display, presenting a sign that said “50% off select trees.” WHAT THE HECK.
Each year retailers come out with their Christmas items earlier and earlier. Next year I’m just going to prepare myself for Christmas items on July 5th.
Okay, this makes it sound like I hate December 25th. That is untrue. I actually love Christmas, but to a certain point. I do not need to hear carols all year or leave my decorations up for 12 months.
What I really really love though… is Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving you are the forgotten middle child that no one pays attention to. You are ignored, mistreated and forgotten.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade has been TAKEN OVER by Santa and his reindeer. How does that make poor old Tom the Turkey feel?
And how do you even enjoy Thanksgiving dinner when all you are thinking about is waking up early for Black Friday shopping? The vision of sitting around the table with your family and relaxing over a filling meal is gone.
And please tell me, why must you put up your Christmas tree for Thanksgiving? Can’t you just wait ONE more day..two holidays with a tree is a bit excessive. And what is the appropriate day to take down your tree? Let’s not wait until the Super Bowl…thats silly.
I’m not the only one at this school who thinks Christmas is taking over either. An anonymous NH twitter user stated, “Dear companies and corporations showing Christmas ALREADY YOU CAPITALIST PIGS.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself. So while all of you are busy dreaming of sugar plums dancing in your head, I’ll be dreaming about mountains of mashed potatoes, turkey and stuffing.
