Kanye West storms the stage pt. 2
During the VMA awards in 2009, recording artist Kanye West stormed onstage during Taylor Swift’s “Best Female Video” acceptance speech. During his stage invasion, he drunkenly ranted, “Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!”
Not only did he embarrass himself, Beyoncé, and the 19-year-old singer-songwriter, he received a lot of negative attention from other female artists. According to thegaurdian.com, Katy Perry and Pink tweeted their strongly-worded disapproval after he was booed off the stage. But it was not the classic “subtweet.” Both were direct and very blunt. Pink finished off her tweet with, “Quote me.” daring the tabloids to write about it.
All of the hate Kanye received was much deserved. What he did was classless, immature, and out of line. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but the results were up to the voters. Not Kanye. If anyone did that to him, it would be the end of the world.
After Kanye gave a pathetic apology on his blog and attempted to explain himself during many interviews, the buzz died down. The hate turned into comedy. Comedians, talk show hosts and even Swift herself used the incident to get a few laughs.
But seriously, for future references, be sure he can’t get his hands on any bottles or microphones. Oh, and maybe handcuff him to his seat.
Six years later, the public had hoped West would have matured. But they were wrong. During the 2015 Grammy Awards, Beck was awarded for the “Album of the Year” over the beloved Beyoncé. Attendees should have anticipated that if the queen bee is disturbed, her hive will attack.
Once again, Kanye wasted no time making a scene. Although he did storm the stage, he said nothing. He got up there, gave a dirty look, waved his pointer finger, then sat back down. According to yahoo.com, many people thought it was just a rudely-humorous joke, but once again they were wrong.
People really should stop thinking the best of Kanye. It’s obvious no one ever taught him “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.” Instead of keeping his opinions to himself, he voices them to the world.
“I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us,” Kanye told an E! reporter after the award ceremony, “We ain’t gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyoncé.”
Yahoo.com reported that Beck admits he did not think he was going to win the award.
“Come on, she’s Beyoncé! I was just so excited he was coming up,” Beck told backstage reporters, “He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?”
Although Beck handled the situation with class and maturity, West continued to prove that over six years, nothing has changed. According to mashable.com, Kanye and Kim stopped by E!’s Grammys after show. There he admitted that he was intoxicated during the show. Kim was clearly mortified during his inappropriate rant to the reporters but that didn’t seem to phase him.
Toward the end of his rant, West blustered, “And by the way, I got my wife, I got my daughter, and I got my clothing line so I’m not going to do nothing to put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity. That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight.”
Yeah, North West must be proud.
