Cheerleading pulls through in counties

The cheerleading squad has had their setbacks, but the team’s season came to a successful conclusion.

The squad, coached by Emily Hilberg, participated in the county tournament on October 23 at Harford Technical High School. For the first time in years, the squad placed in the top five.

“It was like 1987 when we came in third,” said senior Gabi Bunnell.

Even with this successful finish, the squad missed going to regionals by one spot. They finished right behind Bel Air; however, this was a definite bonus for the squad.

“We were so excited to be right behind Bel Air,” said Bunnell.

The squad had their differences this year, but in the end they figured out how to put everything aside and work together.

“Despite our differences, we worked as a team on the mat,” said Bunnell.

Last year, the fall cheerleading squad placed seventh. This season, their goal was to place higher than seventh. For the seniors, it was especially important since it would be their last chance.

“We pulled through as a team to prove to our school we could get better,” said Bunnell.
