Leaving the Nest; Seniors prepare for last sports season
April 1, 2020
After four years of hard work and dedication, many athletes are bittersweet about the beginning of their last sports season. Tryouts began on March 1, seniors took their earned spots and underclassmen began another year of their journey to senior year.
Seniors and participants of the NH boys lacrosse team for four years, Eddie Brittain and Noah Dehart explain the happy and sad reflections. Brittain said, “I will miss playing so much, it made me much more disciplined throughout my everyday life.” Dehart plans to play club lacrosse in his upcoming college years and commented that, “it’s so sad but I would give underclassmen advice to work as hard as you can and it’ll pay off.”
With upcoming meets and games marking the beginning of the end for seniors, many are reflecting on their overall NH experience. This includes senior soccer and lacrosse player Casey Diventi who explained, “In the blink of an eye your high school playing days will be behind you...” She says underclassmen should, “Learn to cherish every moment, whether that is the good, the bad, the ugly or the greatest times. You’ll learn throughout the journey nothing goes as expected but high school sports provide an incomparable experience for students, giving them something to relax after school.”
Boys lacrosse coach Richard Tabeling commented, “This year’s group of seniors are a very special group. They have been 100% committed to growing and leading our program.” As a coach, Tabeling explains that the high school experience is one that can’t be recreated. With his players reaching their last season he adds, “Everyday I cannot wait to get to the locker room and guide them in their final run as high school lacrosse players. They have made me a better man and have made our program shine!!” Diventi adds, emotionally, “As much as I look forward to graduating and moving forward in life the teams I was blessed to be a part of are something of their own, something special, that I will cherish forever.”
