From tee-box to the green, the varsity golf team is headed par for course as they make their way to states this year after winning the district tournament on Tuesday Sept. 19.
They have made a big break so far this school year, as of the date of the district tournament the team remains undefeated with a record of 4-0.
The group consists of twelve people with eight boys and four girls, there is only one senior on the team this year, Cooper Honig.
Honig was one of the members of the team to have qualified for states after the district tournament. He is excited to go, “I think I have a good shot this year, and I am hoping to place in the top 15.” Honig is one of the more committed members of the team as he works hard to prepare for states, “some ways that I prepare are by making sure I get in some practice every day if it is possible.”
Junior, Logan Rakestraw has high hopes for the team this year, because “we have great sportsmanship and we work well as a team, and have a lot of trust amongst the group, and we know how to push each other.”
The eleventh grader has played golf his whole life but has only just recently started to take it more seriously.
Rakestraw believes that so far the season has been great. “I think this is going to be one of the best seasons that the team has ever seen.” He states, “everyone on the team has a great work ethic and we all work to achieve our goals by practicing in our free time, so we can all grow together,”
He wanted to join the team because “golf is a great hobby to learn about, and it was another way for me to add extracurricular activities in order to be social and for a resume.”
Of the 12 members on the team, six people qualified for states and according to Rakestraw Fallston is the team’s greatest competitor this year, however, the team’s positive spirit can be a major boost.
Many members believe that the team has a good chance of prevailing through the season and states.
