This summer, juniors Sophie Deibler and Mollie Fialcowitz have been named team captains for the Summer 7’s. The season starts June 3 and goes to July 22.
The team’s name is Hawkey, and the squad will play 14 games over the span of eight weeks. The team of 16 will practice every Monday evening. The athletes are playing a modified game format which consists of two games each Monday, lasting a total of 27 minutes with three minutes in between each game and no halftime during each game. There will be seven players from each team playing and they will only be using half of the field.
There is both a varsity and JV team for the Hawks, and they play 14 games against high schools throughout Harford County. The idea of Summer 7’s is to allow players to develop skills and maintain an enjoyable, social atmosphere.
All players were required to register by April 30. This summers players include freshman Alison Smithson, sophomores Lila Barnaba, Olivia Bloom, Peyton Dawson, Jayden Holliday, Olivia Tucker, Caroline Ward and juniors Chelsea Cortes, and juniors Delaney Heffner, Allyson Knott, Jordan Lawson, Harley Weisman, Sarah Welzant, Dakota Bonaccorsi, Maggie Dawson, Mollie Fialcowitz, and Sophie Diebler.
Fialcowitz says “it feels good to be named captain,” she is very excited to “lead the team and to be there for everyone.” Deibler says she is “super excited to be captain” as well because, “I can’t wait for what the season will be like.” Both captains take charge for Summer 7’s and summer conditioning, as well as anything that needs to be done to prepare the players for their fall season.
Captains will work alongside varsity coach Mrs. Kellie Fialcowitz, assistant coach Mrs. Patti Webb, JV head coach Mrs. Samantha Preston, and volunteer coaches Mr. Carey Webb and Ms. Sarah Burton. These coaches will also be returning for the fall 2024 season.
