North Harford girls basketball is currently 9-8 as of February 13. The team will close out their season on February 21 with a game against Sparrows Point.
Senior Natalie Barndt, who is a guard, feels the team’s recent games have been going well. “We have been playing some tough teams. However, we are still working together and playing well,” explained the senior. Along with that, she says, “The team has been doing well with taking outside shots and fast breaks.”
Along with Barndt, junior Lauren Nicholson, who plays all positions but is normally forward, also feels the games are going okay. “Our team has been doing very well with our defense and always being in help when it is needed,” she explained.
While the team feels they are doing well, they also say they have a few things to improve on. Nicholson says the team needs to work on “overall communication.” Adding onto that, Barndt says, “The team needs to improve on teamwork and passing.”
The girls have been doing a lot in practice to improve on issues that have occurred in games. “We push each other to work harder and do things in practice that we have messed up in games,” explained Nicholson.
Barndt also explains the specific things the team has been doing in practice. “The team works on speed and defense during practice. This is definitely shown on the court,” stated the senior. Barndt feels working on that in practice has significantly helped the team’s defense.
With the season coming to a close, the girls reflect on what they enjoyed most about the season and how the year went overall. “My favorite part of the season has been laughing and hanging out with all of the girls,” said Barndt. As a senior, it is Barndt’s last year of high school basketball. She feels that as a player, her season went well. “I was able to improve my skills, becoming the best basketball player I have ever been.”
Adding onto that, she says the team as a whole had a good season. “We were able to work hard, even though we did not win every time. We had a great start and will hopefully have a great end to the season.”
Nicholson says, “My favorite part of the season is watching my teammates succeed in the games and having a successful outcome.” Reflecting on her third season on the team the junior adds “As a player, I feel as if I have gained a lot of experience and a lot more skill as my position, I played last year is a lot different from the position I played this year.”
