Wrestlers hopeful to attend states
Currently the wrestling team has 9 wins and 7 losses overall with their final match on February 19 with a tri-meet with Patterson Mill and Elkton.
States will be held over the weekend of March 7th and 8th. The athletes who will qualify for states will not be known until until after regionals on February 28th to March 1st.
As for athletes that stood out this season hoping to go to states, junior Trevor Smith earned one first and two second place finishes in tournaments and 21 wins so far on the season. Freshman Austin Mitchell has placed first and third twice and has an overall record of 21 wins and just 1 loss to this point.
Junior Angelo Koulatsos has acquired 18 wins with second, third, and fourth place finishes. Freshman Justin Reinecke has posted 19 wins and has won a first and a second place in tournaments. Freshman Will Sadowski has won 18 matches and has placed first and third twice in tournaments.
Junior Greg Fiackos has 15 wins with a third, a fourth and a fifth place finish. Junior Stephen Raynor has been sidelined with an injury, but put together 17 wins with two firsts and one fourth.
“We have had success both as individuals at our tournaments and dual meets and as a team as well with our 9 wins and also a second place finish at the Smithsburg Holiday Tournament. Coach Banks and I are looking forward to the post season tournaments including states,” said coach Doug Heeter.
