October marks some of the most wonderful things about the beginning of the school year. Homecoming is at the top of my list; in fact, if I am honest about it, I started preparing for this year’s homecoming 364 days ago. It’s that big.
Really, it might be fall, but who can worry about the changing color of the leaves when what we should be worried about is the homecoming ensemble that we will be putting together.
I mean carving pumpkins has no place on my list of must-do things for fall. Instead, I have spent the first few weeks of the school year scoping out the boy of my dreams and then assessing whether or not he can deliver a homecoming proposal worthy of my time and my answer. And if he can’t deliver, then I’ll see that jerk at homecoming without a date. So there.
And while we are talking about things that might just push me over the edge, here’s another. For the love all things dance related, please, whatever you do, Get. A. Different. Dress. Didn’t you see my post on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Really.
When I am not scoping out the perfect date, my time will certainly not be spent getting ahead in my school work. Nope, you can forget that. I’d rather get the pages of my scrapbook ready so that all those pictures I take during homecoming don’t just end up on my phone. Those pictures are my future. I can already imagine sitting in front of my fireplace, reminiscing about the good ‘ole days. Sigh.
Though you guys get ready in less than 15 minutes, have a little sympathy. I have already cleared my schedule for the days leading up to homecoming. Who has time for work or sports when you have to make sure your outfit coordinates just perfectly with your date’s ensemble. And don’t forget about nails, hair, and makeup. It would be humiliating to end up all over Instagram if I am not at my peak of perfect prettiness.
And homecoming is just a practice run. Hours after homecoming ends, I will already be starting this process all over again. Afterall, prom is only 7 months away. Time’s a’ ticking.
