The annual Student Teacher Talent Show, put on by the yearbook staff, took place Friday, Dec. 6 in the Hawks auditorium at 7pm.
The show was hosted by seniors Mady Staiger and Olive Callon, and the field reporter was junior Jayla Holmes. This is the first time in many years that the talent show has been held in the first half of the school year. The yearbook staff has been busy working all year up to the show to prepare for the event.
The yearbook and journalism staff did an opening number dressed as purple and yellow minions that chased a banana. The yearbook staff did a mash up dance that was choreographed by seniors Callon and Abby Szramka. This is the second year Callon and Szramka have choreographed the yearbook staff act.
The journalism staff also did a dance to Taio Cruz’s Dynamite. The staff wore glow sticks, performing a glow in the dark dance.
This year’s teacher performances consisted of business teacher Mr. Eugene Liebel, English teachers Mr. Richard Peddicord and Mr. Michael James, social studies teacher Mr. Charles Selfe, and science teacher Mrs. Christine Jestel.
There were many solo and group student acts this year, including senior Nicholas Crouse who played guitar and sang. Junior Connor Maxfield did another act playing guitar with senior Ariel Stinebaugh, who played drums; they were accompanied by Selfe, who sang and played guitar. Juniors Connor and Nathan Maxfield did a guitar duet to “Remedy” by Seether. Freshman Alexa Scarff jump-roped to “Brave” by Ella Henderson. Junior Ilyia Huddleston was accompanied by her dad playing the guitar and singing a duet. Senior Amelia Joyner and Jestel sang “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” Finally, last year’s winner, sophomore Michael Carico, returned to do another rap.
This year’s teacher judges consisted of assistant principal Mrs. Kristina Marzullo, science teacher Mr. Robert Lamarr, and technology teacher Mr. Jacob Birchfield. They judged with three students including junior Xavier Dunaway and seniors Natalie Barndt and Matthew Carico.
Members of the yearbook staff did a surprise ribbon dance at the end of the show that they choreographed in less than one class period.
Ilyia Huddleston and her dad won this year; Ilyia sang while her dad played guitar. This year’s teacher winners were Peddicord and James for their Australian breakdancing. Huddleston was “really happy” when she won. She “knew that her and her dad would be able to start off the talent show next year with something different.” She was “not nervous to perform – she just wanted to have fun,” with her performance. When she was announced the winner, she gave her dad a big hug as they were crowned winners.
