Hawks Cheer started their season with sideline cheering at the first home football game of the season against C. Milton Wright. The varsity team has their first competition on October 8th at Kenwood High School  at 8 pm.

Both junior varsity and varsity teams cheer at the home varsity football games. This year there are only four regular season home games this year. There are nine girls that are on the competition/ varsity team and there are 17 girls total on both JV and varsity.

Senior captain Valorie Radel said, “We have been practicing the sideline cheers and everyone has been picking up on them so fast.” Radel has been a part of the cheer team since her freshman year and was elected as a captain this year.

Radel added, “I was excited to become a captain this year, it means a lot to me that the girls come to me and look up to me. I am really excited for this year. We have a really good group of girls.”

Grimm commented about being a captain, “I am super excited to be a captain. It is something I have always wanted to do. I’m excited to help make this year fun and make sure everything is organized  and getting done to be prepared for comps and games.”

Senior captain Kaity Grimm said, “I’m excited to compete and have fun with it being senior year, and getting to know all the new girls on the team and cheering with them.”

Freshman Addison Eckley said, “This season I am excited to learn the new cheers and get to know the girls on the squad better. My favorite part of cheering is doing it together with our cheer family.”

Grimm agreed with Radel and said, “the girls have caught on to the cheers really well at games, and our competition team is doing pretty well. We have a new flier and she’s learning really quickly,  which is really good.”

Grimm added, “Our routine is starting to come together more, we just need to work on being together more and slowing down the cheers at games so we are all together.”

Eckley said, “Our team is doing good so far! I am looking to improve on learning the lyrics to the cheers.”

According to the captains, the team got new uniforms this year. “They are really different from the old uniforms. I’ll have to get used to them, but I  do really like them,” said Radel.
