The NHHS student council is planning a winter formal. After a lack of interest last year, they hope this year has a better outcome.
Student council members are calling the event a ‘Homecoming, Part Two.’ The dress code is the same as homecoming; it’s the same location, and the same style event. Senior and student council president Lilly Heath says, “It’s gonna be almost the same dance as homecoming. That’s what we’ve been advertising it as: Homecoming 2.0.”
Many things from Homecoming are staying the same, including the music, food, and dress code. “There will be the same DJ that came to homecoming and the dance is homecoming attire,” stated Heath. Along with that “there will be Chick-fil-A again, included in your ticket, because we thought that was a hit for homecoming,” continued the senior.
Although most things will be similar to Homecoming, some things will change, including the theme and allowing outside guests. “We are not allowed to have outside guests due to administration reasons,” explained the SGA president. The student government is encouraging people to just go with their friends and have a good time. Regarding the theme, Heath says, “We’re still debating on the theme; we’re thinking of just making it winter themed, like snowflakes.”
Many students may remember talk of a winter dance from last school year. A dance was planned, but was ultimately canceled due to lack of interest from the students. “Last year it didn’t work out because it was just really thrown together,” stated Heath. “We had an idea to make it a less costly opportunity, so we tried to make it a theme where they could wear stuff in their closet and didn’t have to go out and buy a dress,” she continued. However, most NHHS students did not show interest in this type of event.
Regarding the cost, it will be fairly similar to homecoming. “I’m pretty sure the tickets are either going to be the same as homecoming or a little bit less,” explained Heath. The tickets for homecoming were around $30. “They’re gonna be somewhere between [$9 to $25],” continued Heath
The Winter Formal will be on Saturday, January 11 in the school cafeteria. With a formal dress code, Chick-fil-A, and slightly cheaper tickets than homecoming, the SGA is hoping to gain lots of interest from North Harford students.
